Aircraft Mechanic Resume Guide: What MROs Actually Look For
Your resume as an aircraft mechanic isn't the same as a resume in any other industry. MROs, airlines, and corporate flight departments are looking for very specific information, and if it's not on your resume — clearly and prominently — your application gets passed over.
Here's how to write a mechanic resume that gets you interviews.
What Makes a Mechanic Resume Different
Aviation employers care about very specific things. Here's the breakdown:
| What Employers Want to See | What They Don't Care About |
|---|---|
| FAA certificates (A&P, IA) | Objective statements |
| Specific aircraft/engine types worked | Hobbies or personal interests |
| Special qualifications (NDT, composites, RII) | Vague skills ("hardworking", "team player") |
| Maintenance software proficiency (CAMP, TRAX, Corridor) | GPA (unless recent graduate) |
| Stable, relevant employment history | Generic job descriptions |
| Manufacturer training courses | Unrelated work experience |

Resume Tips for Mechanics
- One to two pages maximum. One page for entry-level, two for experienced.
- Lead with certificates. This is the most important section.
- Be specific about aircraft and engine types. "Worked on airplanes" means nothing. "CFM56-7B line maintenance on 737NG" means everything.
- Quantify when possible. "Maintained a fleet of 45 B737s" or "Processed 120+ work orders per month."
- Include all relevant training courses. Manufacturer courses, specialized certifications, and safety training.
- Use industry terminology. MEL, CDL, STC, AD, SB, RII, ETOPS, NDT — if you know the acronyms, use them.
- Save as PDF. Always.
